BAPTISTS
This denomination of Christians has as yet done little towards concentrating its numbers and strength, persons of this persuasion being scattered throughout almost every congregation in the colony. The Baptist Chapel in Kermode St. in Nth Adelaide is a small but commodious building. The attendance is about 70; Sunday scholars about 20. There is at present no minister; the services have been conducted the past year by Messrs Gill, Wickes, Randell & Barnes.
The Rev J.Titherington, Baptist minister, presides over a small congregation meeting in Mr Macgowan’s school room, Stephen’s Place. Attendance is about 50. A union is about being effected between this congregation and that in Kermode St by which arrangement Mr Titherington and Mr S.Gill will be joint ministers of the two congregations.
The Rev G.Stonehouse, Baptist minister and principal of Angaston College is at present pastor of the congregation meeting in the chapel at Angaston. Attendance is about 50. There is also a congregation at the Pine forest chiefly supplied by the Rev J.Prior of Hindmarsh.

GENERAL BAPTISTS
The General Baptists, who differ from the last named sectional divisions in rejecting the doctrines usually called Calvinistic, meet in the old Baptist Chapel in Hindley St. at which Mr Playford is the minister. The average attendance is 150. Mr Playford in connection with Messrs Forster & Abbott usually conducts the services at the Union Chapels at Kensington and Hindmarsh, and has, besides congregations at several other places.

BAPTISTS
The Baptists owing to little differential peculiarities of doctrine are divided into two or three congregations. The principal chapel is in Kermode St. Nth Adelaide where Rev G.Stonehouse officiates as minister. The average attendance is 80-100 persons. There is a Sunday school in connection with this place of worship.
The Rev J.B.Titherington presides over a small congregation meeting in Mr Macgowan’s school room North Terrace.
Another congregation of Baptists meet in a small chapel in Franklin St. They were formerly under the pastoral care of Captain Scott of Port Adelaide, but who we understand has recently withdrawn from them. Capt Scott preaches every Sunday morning at Kermode St. Nth Adelaide and in the evening in Mr Ridley’s Chapel in Albert Town.
CHRISTIAN BRETHREN
The body of Christians under the ministerial care of the Rev Thos.Playford adopt the above designation. The principal chapel is in Hindley St. Adelaide where the congregation amounts to about 130. (etc)

1849 - (Ste - dated Jan 29, 1849)
BAPTISTS
There are several congregations of Baptists, holding differential peculiarities of doctrine.
1. The original chapel is in Kermode St, Nth Adelaide, wherein Mr James Allen officiates as minister. The average attendance exceeds 150 persons; and there is a Sunday schooled in connection with this place of worship.
2. For the Rev J.B.Titherington a neat chapel is in the course of erection in Pultney St, which it is hoped will be completed within three months. In the meantime he presides over a small congregation, assembling in Mr Mcgowan’s school-house, North Terrace. The congregation is not large but there are about thirty communicants, and a considerable increase in number of Mr Titherington’s hearers is expected when room shall have been afforded by the opening of the new chapel.
3. The Scotch Baptists are at present in the Sabbath-day occupation of the old Methodist Chapel in Kermode St, North Adelaide, now better known as Mr Berjew’s schoolroom. Mr William Scott comes from Albert Town to preach there (gratuitously) every Sunday evening; the afternoon being employed by him in a similar service at the chapel built by Mr Ridley in Albert Town.
4. The friends of the Rev Mr Stonehouse are reported to be using very active exertions, with a view to building him a chapel in North Adelaide, where a suitable site has been offered.
5. The Church of Christ meeting in Franklin-street, is a congregation of “immersed believers”, who meet together on the first day of the week, at eleven o’clock am, to break bread and to read the scriptures; as also for mutual exhortation among the brethren. The evening service for the preaching of the Gospel commences at six o’clock on Wednesdays. This body of believers for the better preservation of peace amongst themselves, and, as they believe, in furtherance of the triumph of Jesus, have resolved to substitute the bond of union prescribed by Christ and His Apostles, in place of the abstract theories and hereditary dogmas of human invention, which, they say, have nothing to do with the religion of the son of God. (Thomas Jackson in charge of the congregation at this time. T.L.)
CHRISTIAN BRETHREN
The body of Christians under the ministerial care of the Rev Thos.Playford, have adopted the above designation. The principal chapel is a newly erected one in Bentham-street Adelaide, where the congregation amounts to about 150. Another chapel has been built at Hindmarsh by the Christian Brethren, and Mr Playford assisted by local preachers, had established places of worship at Kensington in the Tiers, and elsewhere.
